Richard Barton – NIAAA Liaison and Certification Coordinator

Rich is the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal at Richfield High School. He earned Utah High School Activities Association Athletic Director of the Year honors in 2009. He has served on the Utah Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (UIAAA) Athletic Advisory Board since 2004 and the UIAAA Executive Board since 2007, and he was UIAAA president in 2008-09. Barton is currently the UIAAA’s certification coordinator and NIAAA Liaison. He served on the NIAAA’s third Strategic Planning Committee, and served as Vice-Chair on the NIAAA awards committee.

In 2009, Barton was a recipient of an NFHS Citation for athletic directors. In 2011 he was one of the recipients of the NIAAA’s Distinguished Service Award. In 2013 he was inducted into the Southern Utah University Athletic Hall of Fame. Rich was selected to be the operations chair for the NIAAA’s 5th strategic plan. He was fortunate to be elected to the NIAAA Board of Directors in December 2014 and in December 2015 he was selected as President-Elect of the NIAAA. Richard enjoys spending time with his wife Sheila and son Tyler.
